Lazy bones!
Here it is, mere hours from February, and I still have a page of last
year's pictures to post.
Tonight's theme is Central Europe Capitals.
Not the major sights you go there for; these are the little corner memories that will
pop up randomly, when you thought you were thinking of something else.
Here we go!
Bratislava, SK
Hanging out by the Danube.
Central Europe gets blazingly hot spells in Summer - spiking around 40 degres C
(104 F). Some folks hang out at the grassy riverbank.
(This works best in town, where the banks have been de-mosquito-ed!)
The city puts these misty arches at popular spots around town. They don't so much
relieve the heat as feel good for a moment. Bless 'em!
To enter the Old City, you pass into a barbacan (walled protection around
a gate in the wall) ...
... and through St Michaels's Gate, the last remaining medieval gate.
Shopping Street nestles under the Castle, just above the walls of the old town.
Vienna, AT
I day-trip to Vienna bout every week, if only to get The Economist magazine,
which I cannot find in Bratislava any more. One of these trips usually ends at
the Prater amusement park.
German-language wordplay: spass means "fun".
Prague, CZ
If you somehow reach Prague without knowing what city you are in, the sidewalks
will give you a hint!
The Illusion Art Museum in Prague's Old City. Cameras very much permitted.
This bridge across the Vltava river looks down on an island park.
