Cambria, California
Imagery Jan 2026
Four hours drive south from the San Francisco Bay Area, and a similar distance north of
Los Angeles, is a liminal world. No longer Northern California, not yet Southern.
A land of quiet beauty; sparsely populated and - thankfully -
under-touristed.
A few small towns provide infrastructure and boutique-y lodging for visitors
wise or lucky enough to come here.
We spent a few days here with family from San Diego. Far enough from home for both
sides to call it a getaway.
Who knows the name of these succulents?
Not I. Feel free to let me know!
Sez a poet:
... "Of shoes and ships ...
... and sealing wax ..."
Sealing wax!?
How about waxing seals?!
They don't call them "Elephant Seals" for nothing;
Those suckers are a good 3m long!
And this is their home turf.
Fortunately, the seals do not climb the coastal cliffs, and it is deliberately
difficult for humans to get down to the seals.
Is there a more classic romantic seaside set-up than
a solitary Gull Without A Buoy?
Iceplant is a common ground cover on this moist foggy coast.
An interloper.
These Live Oak trees thrive in the dry grassy inland, away
from the coastal fog. This one is near home. The picture is too nice to
leave out over something like that.
And we bid you Good Night!
