Rhodes GR
We flash back for a moment to almost two months ago.
(Tempus just fugits along sometimes!)
That was tshirt season. Since then we have moved on through flannel shirt
season, and into jacket season. Yesterday, It also became umbrella season.
As Winter slips into place, the afternoon light - when it is there - becomes
low and golden.
Let's hear it for the Southern Aegean!
Visitors to Rhodes can get carried away with ancient ruins. There is no lack of
modern ruins, This one is actually in the touristy "New Town", developed
by the Italians in the twentieth century.
This litle square is in my neighborhood in the Old City. Usually the cats
outnumber the humans here.
A partly-drizzly day on the battlements over the medieval moat.
Same spot
nicer day.
These oranges (and lemons ) come fresh from my host family's yard-trees. One
benefit of Winter is that I have way more home-grown fruit than
I could ever realistically eat. (Greek mamas can be a bit like Italian grandmas
that way.) I wouldn't think of turning them down, and I do eat what I reasonably can.
Luvvem!
When rain is moving in, the crows emerge from wherever they have been,
and flock overhead.
And the leaves flock underfoot. (That is Flocking Winter, so to speak!)
Epilogue:
Turkey on Thanksgiving Day
My private tradition; Thanksgiving is not a Greek holiday.
I heard nothing at all about it locally.
Curiously though, there was/is quite a bit of hype about black Friday. le sigh
Ready or not ... happy holiday season, everybody!
