Rhodes, GR
I compose these pages evenings in the bar downstairs, wth people, music,
my host's amazing winter soups ... all that you could ask for on a tourist island without
tourists.
Not tonight though; we are under Severe Weather Alert! There were floods in
nearby towns. No unnecessary travel -
Home Sweet Pub is closed until tomorrow evening. I am in my room, hoping that our
flakier-than-ever wi-fi provider will actually upload this stuff.
Last night the power went out three times
here in the Old City, The rain and wind kicked butt, along with a few
Earth-Shattering Kabooms. This afternoon was mild and cold when I went out for coffee
and dinner. So far tonight has brought mere normal intermittent rain. Cross fingers!
Greek windows leak water - I learned early on (on a different island) to
close the shutters when it rains! It gives kind of a hunkered-down feeling. A
good adventure to tell about, but I am looking forward to life with people and
power.
It is all a good reason to post pix from weeks ago. Goodness knows I still
have plenty of them.
Hm... Greece, the Mother of Philosophy, blurring the distinction between
Bugs and features!
Rainy days leave behind these neat earth-sky-water pictures.
Our two mosques:
Suleiman's ...
...and Ibrahim Pasha's.
A window in a battlement overlooking the moat.
Busy season at Jewish Martyrs Square. (The former jewish market square before the nazi
occupation in the Second World War.)
I walked this street this afternoon at the sunset hour, and it was a ghost town.
What a difference two weeks makes at this adventurous time of year!
Stay warm and dry.
The Solstice is almost apon us!
