Rhodes, Greece
This year's covid-abbreviated travel season has sharpened an existing paradox.
As any Rhodian will tell you, there is no such thing as too much time in Rhodes.
But there is such a thing as not enough time in a lot of other places.
This puzzle has many solutions, none of them satisfying.
This season's solution: I'm outta here Thursday, returning in October.
Night after tomorrow, I'll be in Vienna; Sunday night, Malta.
From there, we'll see.
Hey - a treat! It is after midnight, and Home Sweet Pub is playing a Grateful Dead
set on the house stereo. Right now, I am enjoying a Mississsippi Half-Step
that is much better than I remember the album version being. Before was Throwing Stones.
European tourist towns are not California - a bit o' GD is a rare treat. Thanks, my
friend!
The July heat has been hard on some of the hibiscus here. The white ones especially have
tended to wilt. This one has done better than most.
Jupiter's year is about as long as 12 Earth years, and for the first time in my
75 (Earth) years, Jupiter's year has showed up in my actual life!
I've noticed on recent nights that Jupiter is shining brightly in the midnight sky,
right about where I used to see it my first Winter here in Rhodes. Yup - twelve
years ago! So... all those astronomers making all of their observations for centuries ...
they got it right!
(S'what happens when you cheat and actually observe nature.)
Coupl'a turistas at evening, on the bridge at the San Francisco Gate.
