Rhodes, Greece
Mid-February in Rhodes. The cold winter air has lost its bite - at least by day, but
the Forty Days of rain have taken their toll on normal travel pictures.
Tonight's page
is devoted to the coloring-book look. Imagine you came with a sketchpad
and the wrong box of crayons.
A handfull from Symi
As I type...
It is Backgammon Night in the bar at home sweet pub. Most tables are full, and
all but a couple are playing backgammon. Is there an organized elimination? I haven't
asked.
It fills the bar with life on a Monday night - no small feat in Winter,
still less this Winter. All the shopkeepers I know are moaning about losing money on a
wretched season, and some disastrous change in the tax laws coming up.
I wish them all luck. I really don't want to find a ghost island when I return
next Fall.
Perspective, folks: Rhodes has survived for six thousand years and more.
They will survive again somehow.
