Rhodes, Greece
Good old November in Rhodes. The temperatures drop every week or so as we move toward the solstice.
Every time they do so, I get to gripe about the cold yet again.
So here is today's rather perfunctory gripe about the winter cold. Today was actually pretty mild for the
season. Serious Winter still lies ahead.
We really could use some rain though. Send us yours when
you are done with it, please!
Home Sweet Room, featuring a pair of house concert posters by the admirable and talented
artist known as Yodycat.
Outside the south end of the moat, a handy kiosk.
This little room must have been something like a guard station in medieval times. It is built into
the city wall/fortifications, in the Tower of Italy. Today it appears to be the box office for the
little amphitheater in the moat.
We think of monochrome ("single-color") pictures as "black and white", but the color doesn't need to
be black. Sepia pictures are brown and white. Here are a couple of blue and white images,
appropriate for Greece, where those are the national colors.
(Notice that any color looks black if it is dark enough.)
Kolonna Harbor.
A colorful floating tourist shop in the harbor.
Late afternoon light shines into somebody's little boat.
Three regulars at Home Sweet Pub.
Last Wednesday, I walked down to the neighborhood of Zephyros, and through the Wednesday market,
late afternoon as the vendors were breaking camp. Many had already left, but I got a kilo of the
amazingly juicy and sweet Rhodian pears. Well worth the longish hoof down there from the Old City!
This was my first ever visit to the Wednesday market. I've been down there before for the Saturday
market in the same location. Usually I settle for the smaller market on Thursdays, which is much
closer to home between the moat and the football stadium, just outside the Red Gate.
