Rhodes, Greece
Winter seems to be here for real. Two cold rainy days in a row. My Swiss friends have
already gotten on my case over my interpretation of "cold". Visit us and you'll know
what cold is!. So OK, cold for Rhodes.
Even "rainy day" is less than it sounds like to a Californian. Rain rarely lasts
all day here; it slides across the island in stripes a few hours wide. Often, like
today, the rain was heralded by a few booming but distant thunderclaps.
Sigh. In the old psychedelicised days, thunderclap might have been something you
needed serious antibiotics for.
Today's pictures are from the week before the current Winter moved in.
As usual there is little you haven't seen before. A pot-boiler page as the book reviewers
used to say. Enjoy anyway!
Down by the Water
Mandraki Harbor.
As the winter sun moves in, the ripple pictures from the
yacht harbor will use the light to good effect. Even now, the pastel tones aren't bad.
A favorite little winter shortcut home from the laundry or the "supermarket". In the
Summer, I'd just as soon use the big streets and enjoy the people watching. When the streets
are mostly empty, you may as well enjoy the atmospheric medieval alleyways.
Current decor at the pharmacy, where they have reliably come up with all my diabetic
accoutrements year in, year out. Bless 'em!
Last Thursday's market.
'Nuff said.
How long has this been there?!? I walk past the spot several times a week. You'd think
I'd have noticed something like Belgian Chocolate Fondue before. Yet again, I wonder
what other distractions are waiting under my very nose.
