Rhodes, Greece
The first few days of December were cloudy here, windy and gusty. Kind of
spooky and adventurous, but not good photo days.
On t'other hand, I did get off my backside and set up the small speakers
that my friend Jüre left me when he left the island last month. Musica
in camera
! Add to that a choice selection of downloads from Thirty
Days of Dead, a November tradition in my circles ... anyway there is
music in the air upstairs at The Walk Inn. I just hope I am not
annoying the neighbors across the kitchen in the midnight hours, so to
speak.
First, the last days of November.
Ol' Sol was still with us, spiraling his slow steady rhythm down the sky
toward the approaching solstice.
With December, cloudy skies, duller light, and uppity surf all moved in, as
if they had been lurking off shore together.
We missed one of our few remaining chances for cruise ship business; Queen
Elizabeth was unable to moor, due to the winds and high surf. She
had only 2000 passengers so late in the season, but many businesses would
have opened to accomodate them. If I remember right, three more calls by Costa
lines are scheduled, and that is it for the month.
Wer reitet so spät durch Nacht und Wind? ...
Goethe's
ballad is famous for its alliterative evocation of a wind-tossed
night.
Who's riding so late through night and wind? ...
Sadly, a major point of the thing is in what doesn't translate: the way
the music of the wording makes an almost cinematic sound track for the
tale it tells.
Proper daylight returned today. The forecast for the next few days is
clear, but colder. The gusty wind has been making it feel colder than the
thermometer says it is.
The jacket I got at the market last week had been overkill until today. No
longer.
