Madrid, Spain
Imagery dates: Apr-May 2017
Arrived in Zürich on a drizzly evening, departed early the drizzly next morning. Bottom line:
no photos from Zürich.
The morning flight to Madrid made up for it. The Pyrenees - a breathtaking entrance to Spain.
Estacion Puerta de Atocha, Madrid's bullet train connection to just about everywhere. My
eventual exit point from the Spanish capital.
I had a hard time finding lodging in Madrid over May day weekend. I ended up at a characterless
corporate monstrosity near Barajas airport. Nothing to write home about, but it did the job for
a few days. They had a morning shuttle into town, with late afternoon return. Gettng to town
on public transport took longer, and was a bit more entertaining.
The tall atrium of the hotel had stylized murals at the ends, and hotel corridors along the sides.
This is not a black-and-white photo; the place really was this colorless.
A high point in Madrid was an extensive exhibit of M. C. Escher works in a small palace in town.
They didn't want photos of the exhibit itself. I snapped this spookily-lighted corridor.
Another hilight was a gorgeous May Day afternoon in the Parque del Retiro near the Prado museum
(which I also visited).
For the rest of this page, we will be in the park that afternoon.
Well, those spoke for themselves!
Museums don't allow photos, so there is little left to show from my
brief stay in Madrid.
From here, we go to far south-west Spain.
¡Hasta luego!
