Images - England 2010
Back to southern England in 2010.
First stop: Bournemouth,
Dorset
England - where English is no longer quite my native language!
If you have grown up with this sign, I'm sure it sounds obvious. I had to ask.
I think it means changes in traffic flow.
Local flora bedeck the arroyo called Alum Chine
.
(This bridge is really in Frome, but it fits well with the Alum Chine
setting.)
My B&B was on this street. Fortunately, I had done my research, and knew that
in these parts, it is pronounced "Bewley" Road! As I say, English in England
differs subtly from my native language.
A Lion In Summer!
Colorfully decorated lion statues stalk the streets of Bath, Somerset
Enough of cities, yea, even towns!
We hie ourselves to the village of Cross, satellite to the the town of
Axbridge
(Strictly speaking, our new B&B - a wonderfully-converted former cow barn -
stands in the hamlet of Webbington, satellite to Cross!)
I think these are stems of grape vines. Anybody who knows their vines
better than I is welcome to correct me.
Aren't these cool?!
An English Country Garden
Vast and formal, the Stourhead Garden in Wiltshire.
I'd never have known about it on my own. I owe this one to my Anglophile
friend and travel guide Barbara. (Not pictured - the girl in the grotto was some
random fellow tourist.)
