A brief stop tonight in Slovenia; then we'll be off on a journey through Normandy
toward Somerset and England.
Slovenia
Afternoon in a riverside restaurant neighborhood in the relaxed
capital, Ljubljana.
My gracious host and her daughter, costumed up for a local holiday
festival in Ptuj, Slovenia's oldest city.
Rouen, France
Normandy! Famous for rain and rich cheeses. Home to the historic city
of Rouen.
In the old market square, a modern church commemorates the spot where Joan
of Arc was burned. The nearby street is an open cafe district.
The medieval gros horloge (great clock) is mounted on an arch over
an old town street.
The street runs due west, and the afternoon sun puts a golden
glow on both clock and shops!
Colorful half-timbering marks the old parts of town.
A consignment shop.
Could the name be a salute
to Jacques Tati's under-celebrated movie masterpiece?
Fun with the light
What color is Rouen cathedral? It depends on the time of day you look at it!
Here it is at mid-day ...
... and evening.
Claude Monet painted this cathedral at different hours and weather conditions.
He produced more than thirty portraits, no two alike!
Mr Monet didn't do puddle and window reflections, at least not here.
I do do those things, so here is one of each.
Next: More Normandy!
