I've had a good run of these pages lately - each page staying in one place.
Tonight I am off the wagon. Five countries, no consistent theme.
An untamed stream-of-conscious kaleidoscope!
To help keep track, I'll introduce
each country with boldface,
and
each place within the country with italic.
Clear as mud?
Here we go!
Slovenia
Vintgar Gorge
In the Julian Alps, a popular side trip from the famous Lake Bled scenic area.
Ptuj,
on the river Drava in eastern Slovenia.
The Drava valley, looking west from my guesthouse on a hill behind
Ptuj castle.
Notice the slightly misty air. The locals consider that ideal weather. When the
air turns clear, and the hills are sharp, bad storms are on the way!
The back yard of the same guest house.
Yrs Trly's laundry, drying on the balcony.
In town: Ptuj is Slovenia's oldest city.
Ljubljana,
the Slovenian capital.
The Old Cat (Stara Mačka) restaurant
Croatia:
swooshing water at Plitvice Lakes
Slovakia
It only sounds like "Slovenia";
you need to cross the width of Austria
to get here from there!
Bratislava.
An exhibit of bears, painted by children of various nations,
brightens a shopping mall.
Devin Castle
at the junction of the Morava and Danube rivers.
This watchtower signals to boat travellers from Vienna, that they have
reached Slovakia.
Bratislava
Parking at a high rise.
Bratislava, Slovakia
A wiper.
Rain.
A cafe / bar on a pier over the Danube.
The Medical Garden
behind the med school.
Near my apartment, and open to the public, but all the entrances are on the
far side from me. I still go there some..
Vienna, Austria
A monumental column near the Praterstern metro station.
To this day, a movie house in Vienna presents midnight screenings (weekly or so)
of the
1949 Orson Welles film The Third Man, which of course is set in Vienna.
All of you classic film buffs should recognize the Giant Wheel from a key scene.
France
Paris
Yrs Trly at the Mars Hotel!
In 1997, the Mars Hotel was a budget-friendly (for Paris) two-star, with
a great location near the Rue Cler neighborhood. Since then, it has been
replaced by a distinctly non-budget four-star. So it goes!
Bordeaux
My distant cousin, a professor of mathematics, has (had? 2011) a charming modern
flat at the top of an old round tower.
This wonderful stairwell upstages the flat itself! I think those feet belong
to my cousin her brother.
