Bratislava, Slovakia
Five days before I leave, so let's see if I can get at least one page posted from
Bratislava while I am still here.
I've been here since June 20, but have been distracted by other matters, not least of which were
catching up on pictures from Prague CZ, and Yorkshire UK.
Some of these shots have already been on Facebook. Many of them look a lot like Bratislava
shots from previous years, as is appropriate for a page that basically says "We're back!".
Temperatures were in the 40's (105+ F) the day I arrived. The city - bless their little civic hearts -
had set up some of these mist arches in public places like Main Square.
Somebody has turned Designers loose on the restrooms at one of the malls.
Establishing Shots
St Michael's Gate, the only orginal city gate still standing.
Bratislava Castle on its bluff overlooking the Danube.
The Danube.
From The Castle, with the New Bridge.
From Eurovea mall, with the Old Bridge in the background.
I don't remember where this rain puddle was. From the reflected building, it may have been near
my apartment.
Late summer here is like the monsoon season in Arizona. Afternoons can cloud over and give
thunderstorms for an hour or so. Afterward, the low sun beams in under the dark storm clouds.
Aupark used to be the oldest known city park in Central Europe. Now it has been renamed, and the
historic name belongs to an adjacent shiny new shopping mall. This plaza sits between the old Aupark and
the new.
My apartment building.
I walk past this spot every day, but I almost never look up and see it like this.
The Palmenhaus,
the imperial greenhouse at Schoenbrunn Palace in Vienna.
We'll be seeing more of Vienna before we are done with Bratislava. Schoenbrunn got a whole afternoon
of my time.
As I've said before, I like to visit Vienna as a day-trip from Bratislava, even though almost
any package tour will do it the other way around.
This arcade covers a walkway at the side of the old imperial summer palace.
Today's crypto-photo. An exit stairway from the Vienna Metro (U-bahn) at Pilgramgasse
station.
The long lovely Hviezdoslav Square in Bratislava.
Another popular Bratislava landmark, St Elizabeth's, popularly known as The Blue Church.
Some other church whose name I do not know.
So, we're back. Slovakia is still here, as is its neighbor Vienna. We'll be seeing more of both,
even if some of it may get posted from California or points in between.
