Split, Dalmatia, Croatia
Compared to last time's core dump, this page will be pretty terse.
There is no narrative
here, just a bunch of images from the last few days that struck me as vivid, one
way or another.

Caption Contest
This picture almost cries out for a caption. Nominations are open.
Some kind of palm-ish tree outside my apartment building.
I wish the light were better, but the sign is too good to pass up.
Behind the palace.
How many people do you know who know who Diocletian was? OK, you guys
will skew the count upwards. How many places have you been where everybody
knows who he was? They do in Split!
In a city with no lack of beautiful or interesting sights, the crown set-piece
of the lot is the retirement palace of Roman Emperor Diocletian, founded 304 A.D.
The major palace walls and basement are still there, interbuilt with a kaleidoscopic
maze of medieval, renaisance, and modern construction.
This trio of pictures are all from the same spot in the peristyle, the main
courtyard of the palace interior.
Choose your destination; this is the approach to the ferry terminal. Italy is an
overnight ride away, the Dalmatian islands closer. Some are an easy day trip
there and back.
If you are not riding a ferry today, there is no lack of places to sit and
watch them come and go.
