Sitía, Crete, Greece
Cheers from Sitía , Crete.
The ferry arrived here at 5:00am. I strolled the km or so
into town slowly, and watched the sunrise over the
marina (i.e. yacht harbor), before I had the heart
to start rousting potential landlords for accomodation.
I dunno why this cat turned to look at me just as I snapped his
picture.
Had it rained earlier? All the stone
benches along the
waterfront had puddles of water on them. This one also had some
graffiti.
Here comes the sun.
Later in the day
Digs at last, on the European third floor - i.e. the American fourth.
A huge bougainvilla climbs all the way up here, embracing the lower
floor balconies as it goes.
My hosts / landlords are a sweet couple and their (her) mama. The wife
speaks good English, hubby handles German and French, Mamacita does
strictly Greek, but we have fun trying.
My soul is inspired to burst into song:
Ojibway an' Nome, Paris Buffalo Rome
Souvenir Santa Ana Ell Lay
George one two an' third, cantorum absurd
Paradise Omaha Sam Bozay
(Apologies to the late, great Walt
Kelly.)
Beachfront cafes here must hire lots of design-school graduates.
Here are the things that two wi-fi enabled cafes make your eyes and
brain cope with
when all you want is to take a leak.
What the hey... the coffee is good (this is after all Greece)
and the
wi-fi works enough to get the job done.
