Siena, Italy
I am unaccountably dissatisfied with today's images. The town of Siena is lovely, and drizzly
weather has never stopped me before. (If anything, it has given me something to grumble about.)
Still, I post these with the feeling that I have failed to do justice to this lovely hill town.
That said, here goes!
Cosimo di Medici, Duke of Florence and Siena.
If he said so, you didn't argue!
Ducking out of a sudden cloudburst at the (Piazza Il) Campo..
Like Orvieto, Siena uses a prison-stripe motif on their Duomo. OK in bright sun, but
drizzly weather really drabs it up. C'est la vie!
The Campo is more or less the epicenter of town, ringed on all sides by cafes, bars, and
turista restaurants. You pay for the ambience, of course. I found better bang for the buck,
and food for the money, on the narrow Via Pantaneto which leads to my hotel.
The shallow bowl of the Campo serves somewhat like Rome's Spanish Stairs, as a hang-out spot and
outdoor lounge for visitors from all over.
If you have a hotel room in the old city, chances are you have a stair to get up to it.
Here is mine. Conveniently, I only go about half way up.
A corner room, no less, light, airy, and spacious by European hotel standards...
... with some good local color outside.
An almost-scenic view from the other window.
Reach out and touch someone.
Send not to know for whom the phone rings. It rings for thee.
As always, my fellow turistas are good for an image or two.
Going in to my last week here in Slovakia already!
We shall see whether I get any pictures
from here up while I am still here.
It can keep me busy in California between scans, scopes,
and check-ups.
