Šibenik, Croatia
A flaky sun and few pictures over the weekend. Let's see what I am sitting
on from before.
Was Saturday National Wedding Day in Croatia? St Vallentine's Day? Sadie
Hawkins Day?
There seem to have been non-stop weddings going on in the old town here.
An unusually raucous and celebratory air for a quiet small city.
Looks like I'll be hanging around Croatia a week longer than I had planned.
(Gee, twist my arm or something!)
The original plan was to leave Šibenik Wednesday, day after tomorrow, and
head for Bratislava, to settle in there until late August. The thing is ...
have you been hearing about massive floods on the Elbe and Danube rivers?
Yeah, Bratislava sits smack on the Danube, and it got whomped.
Hmm... Vienna is on the Danube too, and I haven't heard anything at all
about how they came through. Guess I'll find out in a week or two.
So, plan B: give Bratislava an extra week to recover, while yrs trly hangs
out in Split, which is easier for me to spell than Šibenik, because
the GNU/Linux text processing programs handle all of its letters gracefully.
(I need to use a special, rather clumsy editor to get the Š.)
A week in Split! <deadpan> I'll find a way to live with it.
</deadpan>
Hopes and best wishes to at least one friend in Passau (Danube), several in
Hamburg (Elbe), and everybody I know in Bratislava!
Meanwhile, the deeply unreliable forecast is calling for sun the rest of the
week here in Dalmatia, with temperatures into the high 20's°C (80's°F) by
the end of the week. Maybe I'll get to use the short pants I got in the
market square in Zadar.
