Caen, Normandy, France
I am writing this from Caen, an hour and a bit by train west of Rouen.
Our subject is still Rouen though, so without further ado..
The flamboyant gothic Palais de Justice. Rouen's many stunning churches have no monopoly on lacy stonework
The Toke of Gold
I saw several Dutch masters' paintings
today at the Musée de Beaux Artes. Somehow this picture reminds me of
them. Illuminated faces set off against dark areas.
The last light of the setting sun.
When your hotel has 15 rooms, there is an easy theme for the key fobs. I was in number nine.
Plenty of stairs. Three flights up to reach room nine.
I never learned what this be-ribboned car was about. It looks to me like the getaway car for a wedding.
St-Ouen Church.
There is no lack of lacy stonework anywhere in Europe, but Normandy
has an extraordinary concentration of it. (Based on my two samples so
far; Caen here is chock full of the stuff too.)
A curious store selling modern furniture.
Most of it would have been right in place in the Arpel
home in Mon Oncle
Remember...
The real show should begin when you leave the theater.
