Rhodes, Greece
There has been a flu going around. I was an early adopter, so to speak.
Spent a week thoroughly miserable, and another less so. This third week, I feel well,
but still need to recover the strength to actually do stuff.
Let's start with a few by-now-generic pictures of the old city in mid-November.
The flow of cruise ships dwindled to a trickle over the first two weeks of
November. Now in December, it is mostly a memory. The old city is cast
members only, to borrow a phrase.
Familiar-sounding (if not looking) names in the entertainment section
Ray Charles
Gene Wilder
A city gate by night ...
... and another by late afternoon.
Late sun in the wood between the worlds, (the former death zone, now a park,
around the outer edge of the moat.)
Yiannis', probably the best honest Greek food in the old city.
Probably the best vegetable soup on the island. Too late now though; they are
on vacation until February.
My now-ex neighbor, a Greek-American woman who uses the nom-de-voyage
Aphroditi. She left last Saturday for Freiburg, Germany, where she has people.
We miss her here. I wish her well.
