Imagery from Rhodes GR - Fall 2025
The Solstice has come and gone. The Sun is returning, slowly but surely.
The Good Old Solstice - it works, whatever you do or don't believe in.
Nature doesn't worry, and tempus keeps fugiting along.
I'd have loved to have had Christmas dinner with my Greek host family. Hard to do ithat from California though, so we had a Chinese dinner that couldn't be beat.
Tonight's pictures are still Rhodes; around home doesn't count as travel pix.
So here we are.
The old year is effectively over. The new year hasn't begun yet.
These are The Days Between.
I'm a fan of liminal places and times, outside the main categories. The
less-discovered little gems in the less-travelled parts of the world, or the times
that slide between the big-deal days.
One good friend gripes about this time of the year, and waits impatiently for
time to pick up its march again. Me, I savor the in-betweens, the personal thresholds,
while the big attentions are turned elsewhere. De gustibus ... and all that!
I won't be back in Europe until May. Bureaucratic rules limit me to 90 days
at a time. A new computerized system makes it impossible (AFIK) to ignore that
limit now. As Albert Alligator would say, Rowrbazzle!
I still have enough pictures to keep these pages coming for a bit. After I schedule
some Old Folks' Medical Stuff, I'll plan some non-Europe places for a
couple of months.
Probably New Zealand or new places in Australia. Or new parts of Fiji?
Cool as Fiji is, I had difficulty logging in to my email when I was last there.
Does that sound silly?
I laughed at the heebie-jeebies it gave me to be a week without email!
Still, heebie-jeebies is heebie-jeebies. I'm a bit nervous to return to those
lovely islands. We'll see.
So... time to catch our mental breath, and savor these moments between.
The wheel is turning, it can't slow down.
You can't let go and you can't hold on.
You can't go back and you can't stand still.
If the thunder don't get you then the lightning will.

Ready or not, here comes another trip around the Sun!
