Rhodes, Greece
A slight cold moved in to my sinuses last night, and has already reloacated
down to the bronchia. So I cancelled today's walk, and spent the day under the
covers, like a college couple, except mostly sleeping. 'Twas a bit cold, even to sit
up and read; Greek heat insulation will never be mistaken for Swiss, not in
Rhodes anyway. Seems to have helped. We shall see tomorrow.
In any case, it is more liveable than last year's flu.
I am far from a short timer here yet; I've more than five weeks to go,
before heading home via three nights in Paris. Still, departure is beginning to
loom on the horizon, and creep into day-to-day thinking. How long will this package of
kleenex last? When should I clean out all of the accumulated grocery bags?
Work up my courage to phone in French for a reservation? Get on Skype at some
inconvenient hour to make medical appointments in Calif?
At best, it becomes what a friend recently described as "vacation planning
glee", with a touch of seasonal ambivalence.
Goin' to Paris!
Hot dang!
Whaa...?!? Remember Paris in February? A week without ever feeling
comfortably warm?
Oops! Yeah...
No room heat, 'cept early morning and mid-evening? All day drizzle?
Shudder. You're right.
Hooboy!
Going to Paris! ...
[Da Capo, con variazione.]
Blue Star Ferries handlle the traffic to Athens and Thessaloniki, at the
very northen tip of the Aegean. ANEK does the traffic to Crete and points
between. (The K stands for Kriti, which means just what you'd think.)
The snow on the mountains is more obvious in person than in a photo.
Sorry 'bout the corny distortion from the wide angle shot, but I like the way the
clouds dance around on my retina in this picture.
I doubt that Free Spirit offers a free ride ...
... however you spell the name.
Last light on the old tower at the San Francisco Gate.
And to all a good night!
Stay warm!
