Rhodes, Greece
This dome never really registered on me before. A half-coating of pigeons was all
it took to get my attention. Hooda thunkit?!
Two cats in the empy space by Sophokleous Square. The orange one is cleverly
pretending to be somebody's dropped fur hand muff. Cats can be sneaky.
Alas for still pictures! This field of wispy fronds, dancing all together in
a stiff wind, was pure music for the eyeballs.
A floating souvenir shop in the harbor, closed for the season.
Another Rhodian leitmotif - late afternoon light on a biggus ficus. I don't
even remember which ficus or where; the old city and its immediate surroundings are
full of them.
If I ever get tired of these, you'll know I've been here long enough to need
a break.
It is not like any two of these pictures are ever going to be identical.
The so-called New Market complex.
Another twentieth century contribution from The Italians.
I just noticed a sign recently that identifies this area as the
Grandmaster's Palace Garden. That does explain the back gate into the
moat, right near a small door beneath the palace.
I hope those grandmasters were not too old and creaky; it must have been
a lo-ong run of stairs down and up from the palace's main levels.
