Rhodes, Greece
It is Thanksgiving Day as I type, though it may not be by the time this page gets
uploaded and posted. We are ten hours ahead of the goodle west coast here, and
midnight is approaching.
Of course there is no such thing as Thanksgiving Day in Greece; I am thankful
for the lack of Black Friday.
My little Swiss buddy and her parents left today on the ferry for the
island of Leros, and I wish them Bon Voyage.
They will be back
briefly in a month, before returning to Switzerland.
Might be a good chance to
visit the Schweiz next year; who knows?
Thursday is market day, in the street between the soccer stadium and
the old city moat, just outside the Red Gate. Strung right along the edge of
the wood between the worlds... fruits, veggies, fish, squid, flowers, clothing,
honey, et cetera.
Today I bought sweet red-golden apples, honey, and mandarins, which are
still a bit small, but sweet enough now to enjoy.
Today's honey is blossom honey. Up to now I have been using thyme - thymari
in Greek.
I am curious to taste the difference between the two. If I can't tell the
difference, that will mean I should be eating it more slowly.
The back side, if not the backside, of St Fanourios' church, tiny, but I
gather it is historically significant.
I think this is this season's first moon picture. I don't know why I have
ignored it until now. Perhaps in Summer, it was not visible until after I had put
my camera away for the day.
The Wood Between The Worlds
in the former no-man's land outside the moat, where would-be cannoneers were
an easy target for defenders on the city walls. In those days, this death-zone
was cleared of trees and other cover that might protect beseigers.
Now the entire ring is a planted park.
This section reminds me of C. S. Lewis' wood between the worlds, so
privately I call it that.
