Prague, Czechia
At last I have discovered cheap sleeps in Prague!
This is great news; now I can afford to
spend more than about three nights a year in this beautiful and interesting city.
Žižkov Tower
Like Bratislava with it's
New Bridge,
Prague has a wierd-but-fascinating piece of Communist-era
architecture, the TV tower in the downscale neighborhood of Žižkov.
I don't know whether the babies were part of the original, or added later for post-commie humor.
Tower of Powder
The Powder Tower (Prašná brána), as in gun- and cannon powder, is one of several similar towers
around the edge of the old city center. I didn't manage a satisfying picture of it,
but I had to include it here. Who could resist a chance to refer to the Tower of Powder.
Riegrový Sady
A nice hillside park near my newly-found cheap sleeps, named for a Mr Rieger, whose statue adorns
a corner.
My pocket dictionary translates sad as orchard. In practice, the plural sady
seems always to be used of parks, with nary an orchard in sight. John James Audubon
had an answer to that dilemma: When the bird and the book differ, believe the bird.
Giant soap bubble buskers at the Old Town end of Wenceslas Square.
They can bring out the kid in anybody, especially kids.
A flock of swans on the Moldau, near the Malá strana neighborhood.
The Charles Bridge
This bridge is a major city
square in its own right.
People stroll, shop, and eat along
the river's bank adjacent to the bridge,
on land that is
under water during floods.
The Old Town
I've said it before: few cities give you
better reward for constantly looking up.
In the maze of the Old Town.
Old Town Square.
Copy/pasting special characters has already become tedious, so I am not including the name in Czech.
One of Europe's great city squares, capped
by the striking spires of the Tyn Church.
From Prague, one of the biggest cities I expect to see this season, I have already moved on to the
smallest town I expect to visit, Loket nad Ohři.
The little town is as charming as ever, but grey skies and cold temps have put a damper on
photo-making. This should give me time to put up a page or two more from Prague.
