Goodle Praha, "Mother of Cities".
Weed and souvenir shops abound in the gorgeous neighborhood around the west end
of the Charles Bridge. Notice the
fun Czech spelling of "souvenirs".
If you cross the river Vltava on the bridge by the National Theater, stairs can lead you
down to this island park.
There is even an elevator for people who are not compatible with stairs.
Roman-style churches tended to be dark inside, because the walls were solid, to support the
weight of the building.
Gothic churches shifted the burden of support to external buttresses, and enabled soaring
windows, usually with stained glass art.
A person with a clock knows what time it is.
A person wth two clocks does not.
A Maltese cross marks this tower of the Knights of Malta, nee Knights of Rhodes.
A rear wall of their compound has become a landmark graffitti wall dedicated to John Lennon.
(The Knights turn a blind eye, giving tacit permission.
You couldn't make this stuff up.)
In this historically-Catholic country, it is easy enough to find teachings the various Churches
would once have banned. E.g. the Protestant Bible in three languages, including Martin
Luther's German translation; a no more (or less!) sensible modern counterpart; ...
... and waddya know, some kind of Buddhists! (I wonder if there is a Zen center in town,
perhaps with the charming wordplay of Allen Watts' lectures?)
Peace Square, on the edge of ...
... goodle Vinohrady neighborhood, my preferred home base these days in Prague.
