Plauen, Saxony, Germany
Imagery Date May 2017
Frankfurt was a big city, Nürnberg a medium-size one. Plauen is a small city, but
the only real city for 100 km in any direction.
I go there every year for music and celebration
with friends who do likewise.
What would a European city be without statues. Two here warm my li'l heart.
I have not a clue who grandma here is, but she gets a chuckle from me.
Father and Son are the beloved creations of local cartoonist Erich Ohlers,
who wrote under the name E. O. Plauen. E.O. himself died in a Nazi jail, guaranteeing his
characters a certain immortality.
The old and new city halls, each with its town clock.
Evening star over the Altmarkt square.
"Matsch
Plauen's oldest guest establishment
since 1503"
"When Johann Wolfganng von Goethe stayed in Plauen, on July 3rd 1795 during his journey to Carlsbad,
he did not set foot in the 'Matsch'!"
Hotel
This old-fashioned window made it a pleasure to choose the stairs instead of the
elevator to my hotel room.
Malzhaus
The medieval malting house, now a pub and event venue.
The back terrace beer garden.
"Brew Alley" ...
... and the alley itself.
Any fountain can make water splash.
Making it land with a satisfying *plop* is
really cool!
