Nuernberg, Germany
Imagery - May 2023
There are direct flights from Palermo, Sicily to Nuernberg, Germany.
Hooda thunk?
In mid-May, one of those flights carried Yrs Trly away from a drizzly day in Palermo to
... Sow Weather. That lead-colored overcast, the roof of clouds that is a seasonal
feature in Bavaria, and this year in Franconia as well.
Without the Sun, I was unable to test my theory that this is actually a sundial, painted
on a wall (of a church? I don't remember now). An oddly-shaped dial and gnomon, but it does
look plausible.
Three Ravens Hotel.
The name in words is on the front side.
The Altstadt abounds in painted art on the building walls.
In the shadows of the churches.
When this fountain was built, this was drinking water for the city's people.
For all I know, it might still be drinkable.
Yup... this is where you are!
Also, the time is now.
In the Hauptmarkt
There is probably a reason that Cuban flag is always on that balcony. Maybe even a story behind it?
If anybody knows, feel free to tell, or point me to it.
As often, the Hauptmarkt had an open-air market going. Mostly fruits, veggies, berries (yum!)
and those enormous white asparagus that parts of Germany make such a marvel of in season. The
Turkish Delight got my attention.
I had never seen whikey cola before. Apparently it is a more common thing than I was aware.
Shows the circles this elderly geezer runs in! (Better circles than hyperbolas!)
Still in the Hauptmarkt...
The ornate Frauenkirche. Ornate? That is s'posed to tell you it is Catholic.
This one says "Closed temporarily". I don't know how long that temporary is; as C. S. Lewis' lion
says, "I call all times soon."
Yet another attempt - only partly successful - to do just to the gorgeous Beautiful Fountain
(Schoener Brunnen). Perhaps if I succeed partially enough times, the partials will add up to
a mosaic of it.
Is any river so rich in reflections as the Pegnitz in Nuernberg's Altstadt?
Reflections, and also the ducks! Lets just riff on them for the rest of the page!
Eh... what's up, Duck?
