Nürnberg, Germany
Don't look for Roman or ancient remains in Nürnberg; their claim to
fame is medieval and renaisance, as well as modern. They are proud
of their famous son Albrecht Dürer, but they don't hype him the way
Salzburg does Mozart.
Schöner Brunnen
The aptly named Beautiful Fountain on the main square.
This little guy is part of the detail.
This fellow spouts drinking water into a basin in front St
Leopolds's Church.
The water lands on this scoop-shaped platform, at one end of a
pivoted
water
pipe.
People are free to tilt the pipe forward, bringing the water out
to themselves instead falling into the basin.
A valuable medieval community resource.
Down by the River
The river Pegnitz flows gently across the heart of the old town.
Let's stroll along it for the rest of the page.
The late afternoon sun reflects off the rippling water into the
undersides of the many arched bridges.
Master Builder Beaver has felled a number of trees here.
We protect tree and beaver!
This foot bridge leads into a commendably low-profile entrance to
the Nürnberg Metro (U-Bahn). It must be a delightful way to emerge
from a subway ride.
