Nice, France
Imagery - Early October 2022
Early in October I headed south in search of the sun and warmth so absent in Paris.
I had never visited Nice before, partly because the name French Riviera just sounded too
corny.
August in Paris: hands-on at the Luxembourg Garden.
Nice: the sun is out, and - for Europe in October - it is warm!
I am already glad I came this southern route!
I don't know whether this is a surfer, or what else if not. He stands by the
seaside promenade.
To a Californian, this is so weird. A world famous beach without a grain of sand!
Made of nothing but rocks! To us, no sand means no beach.
Over here, anything with an ocean and a place to sit is a beach. Even in October,
people were savoring the treat.
The promenade stretches as far as I could see in both directions.
I believe the array of beach umbrellas means a resaurant.

A Day Trip to Monaco
Any place I've never been is worth seeing once, and there is a big-name attraction just up
the coast.
For a place that movies always portray as a high-end glamor spot,
Monaco in the flesh is an anti-climax.
I wasn't looking for the casino (There appears to be only one, unlike say,
Las Vegas.) So I set out to see what else I could find.
Mostly there were densely-packed high-rises on steep hillsides.
I made my way down to a nice, if unremarkable yacht harbor, where I found (ta da)
a hop-on-hop-off tour bus! I hopped on.
Whatever may be here to see, the bus knows how to find it better than I do.
A park-like ridge-top, another little harbor, a castle (inhabited) up on a hill, and
even more densely-packed high-rise office/apartment buildings.
The casino seems to be very much the main event here. Unless I inherit fancier
clothes than I ever wear, and so much money that I need to
gamble a lot of it away ... once will likely be enough for Monaco.
Back in Nice, We find the under-construction new train station.
If it weren't for the beach,
Jardin Albert 1er
would be Nice's premier
scenic hang out.
