Valletta

An old building in the rapidly gentrifying heart of Valletta here in Malta.

Somebody has to keep some old memories alive! :)

St Julians

A few miles up the coast, in the night club and restaurant district of the town of St Julians.

Several bars on this street advertise large numbers of shots for a fixed price. I came here for a Covid-19 test at a lab nearby. Still, it is safe to assume that "50 shots", "24 shots" etc refer to booze, not vaccine.

So help me, there is a sculpture by the waterfront that spells "LOVE" upside-down. If you are a writer, think of the leitmotif you could make of that. Love, now seen clearly, now lost in the storm or fog or night. And only seen rightly in reflection, never when you look straight at it.

(Take a moment to be thankful that I just photograph stuff.)

Marsaxlokk

MAR-sa-schlock
a small fishing town in the southeast of the island.

A much slower-paced place than the capital, or St Julians.
It gets short shrift tonight. We'll see more in pages to come.

Malta has a number of coastal towns named Marsa-this and Marsa-that. Marsa- is an Arabic root meaning "port" or "harbor".

Xlokk is name of the seasonal southeast wind that Italians call Scirocco. It also means "Southeast" the direction. The port of Marsaxlokk is indeed in the southeast part of the island. I'll bet it gets that Xlokk wind full tilt in season.
