Valletta, Malta
"There come a time, when good man must wear mask."
- The Lone Ranger
Hello from the smallest country I have ever hello-ed you from!
You could fit Malta eight times into Luxembourg, though
I don't advise trying.
Tonight we will see the capital city Valletta, named for
Grand Master of the Knights of Malta, Jean de Valette, who commanded the resistance to
the Great Siege of Malta by the Ottoman Empire in 1565.
The Barrakka Lift
from the upper city ...
... straight down to the waterfront. A 1-Euro ride, including a same-day return trip.
Cafes and restaurants are mostly outdoors in the pedestrianized streets.
How much is this due to the blistering heat of July and August? How much to
Covid-19 precautions? I dunno. A few places advertize that inside is fully air-conditioned,
and I can understand the lure, but I feel safer outdoors.
Mr Delta would probably not kill my nalga, or even hospitalize me, but it could
badly disrupt my flight plans next week!
The Grand Harbor ...
... from the walls of Valletta.
