I learned the German word for tugboat: so help me, they are called Schlepper.

Some re-bar near the beach had rusted a lovely shade of orange in the sun.

Locks in the harbor! Unlike most locks, the boat is not raised or lowered in passing. The locks control the flow of water, and especially silt, from the river through the harbor.

Back in the base neighborhood of Altona (ahl-toe-NAH).

If you know your ship anatomy, you may know what this part is. I never thought to read the sign, so I haven't a clue. It is big, though.
