Genova & Firenze, IT
Imagery October 2022
A four-day transit of Italy, before I was due in Greece.
Two nights in Genova, where I had never been, and two in increasingly familiar Firenze.
Genova
Genova gets a lot of mileage from being the birthplace of Christopher Columbus.
As Mr. Columbus' real history overtakes his colonial(ist) legend, Genova might someday need to
re-think just how hard they want to identify with him.
But this is not that day.
With only one full day in a strange city, I relied on an open-top tour bus for
orientation and most of my sightseeing.
Bottom line: I don't remember the name or location of this big white arch. C'est la vie!
The old harbor, with a bit of the galleon Neptune.
Pesto for love?
Or pesto for money?
(Betcha pesto for money costs a lot less money.)
Firenze
There is so much must-do stuff in the center of Firenze, that most people are gone
again before they see the "options" on the outskirts of town. This time let's explore
a bit.
This park downriver from the center was new to me. Let's hear it for having local
friends!
A different, hillside park with a dragon.
An eye-pleasing Orthodox church, deep in the belly of Catholic turf.
Does anything look more Tuscan than a row of Italian cypresses?
Looking upriver toward the heart of town.
