A New Mall

Sunnuvagun! A third big shiny new mall, that I never knew about. Two years ago, it wasn't here. Last year... what the hey. It stretches along the Danube between two bridges, with a grassy park area on the river embankment itself. Eateries line the walkway at the top of the embankment.

Shiny, international, nothing particularly Slovak about it, but it is definitely a pleasant place to hang out on a hot summer afternoon, munching a sundae, reading my magazine, taking the occasional photo, watching boats on the river and people everywhere.

How do you feel about burgery? Ever been burgered by a large international corporation? They'll do you here as well as anywhere.

Movie Madness

Like the other two malls (that I know about), this one has a multiplex cinema of the chain that is showing the last Harry Potter movie when it opens here Thursday.

I had planned on seeing it here in Bratislava that day, one day before the U.S. release for who knows what reason.

Then I discovered that it opens Wednesday in Vienna. So a matinee showing there is a great excuse for a day trip to the Big City.

It is unaccountably hard to get details on showtimes, language, etc before a movie actually opens in these parts. Some info on showtimes showed up today on the Viennese cinema's web site, which sounds like it might be evening showings only. If so, no go - logistics of getting back to Bratislava at night are beyond the scope, as they say.

On t'other hand, the only advance info I've seen about Bratislava showings - the Wednesday night midnight showings - talks about Slovak Dubbing. Sub-optimal to say the least.

But with three multiplexes at three big malls showing it, I'll betcha some will turn out to have an English version on at least one screen at least some times.

This one is going right down to the wire. Stay tuned...
