It's short-timer time again in Slovakia. In ten days I'll be gone from here.
So it is only fair to skip ahead from lovely Prague to my city on the Danube, and get some
pictures out.
Something Old
The Old City
A tour guide tells his group about Bratislava's favorite photo op, the Man At Work.
One anecdote
holds that a car from the nearby British Embassy collided with him one night, leading to a
tonge-in-cheek traffic sign next to the statue.
St Michael's Gate
the only remaining medieval gate to the Old City.
This view is actually from outside, over a piece of the moat, which now serves as a public
reading garden and performance space.
Our old friends the Martians, zapping the city's freeways with their murderous heat rays.
The New Bridge reached its design life of 50 years recently. I don't know how that affects
its planned future.
My neighborhood statue critters are still here. Aren't they cute!
Something New
Slovak National Radio
Becase of its Communist-era origin, the inverted pyramid is often described as oppressive, brutalist.
A similar design in Tempe, AZ is widely praised as innovative and energy-efficient.
A once-sparsely-built area east of the Old City seems to get at least one new skyscraper or
fancy new mall every year. This fountain/skylight was not here when I first came here, nor
was the tri-mesh covered mall around it..
Fountain
Skylight
New last year.
New this year.
Something Timeless
A monthly Street Food Fair in Old Market Square.
A Latin proverb (In wine there is truth), and a Slovak addendum (In beer too).
Summertime
Freedom Square
Main Square
Down By The River
The Danube
In town, the banks are de-mosquito'd at the start of the Summer.
