Vienna - Schönbrunn Palace
When I visited the Vienna zoo, I discovered that it is only part of the vast
park that is the gardens of Schönbrunn, the Habsburg imperial
summer palace. In my last week in Slovakia, I went back again to the Austrian
capital to have a look at the rest.
I never set foot in the palace itself; that would have required a visit
in its own right, and an entry fee. The gardens are a free park, albeit with
fees for the zoo (done that already) and the hedge maze, which I couldn't
resist.
Penguins are so cute! How come this was the best I could get for a penguin
picture a week earlier here at the zoo?!
The imperial greenhouse, known as the Palmenhaus (Palm House)
Some fellow Turisten at a fountain.
The foot is made of marble, and is much larger than life.

Return to Bratislava.
For the rest of the page we are back in Slovakia.
When I return from Vienna to Bratislava I often arrive at prime sunset time.
The text reads Wild West, apparently a theme park somewhere in
Czech Republic. I dunno. For an American, any number of Czech fairy-tale
towns are more exotic living parks than any imitation wild west could be, to
say nothing of the dazzling Czech capital itself, of which more in a soon-to-come
post.
At Bratislava Main Station, as I left Slovakia for Prague and California,
I glanced back and saw this view. I'll take it as a sign that I'll be back
next year.
