Bratislava, Slovakia
I'm still in California, which doesn't count as travel photos for me, so let's
catch up on two pages worth of Goodle Bratislava. Being the organized,
well-disciplined travel reporter that I am, I'll start Bratislava with
two pictures from...
Vienna
Sidewalk shopping in the Landstrasse district.
A public placard post in the University quarter. In Berkeley, we used to call these
notice boards "kiosks", but that means something different in Europe, so I don't know
what to call it. Notices of entertainment and other events get posted here.
I only recently learned that there is an actual student district in this area, once you get
away from the set-piece formality of the Ringstrasse. Cafes, galleries, hangouts, etc.
My next mission in Vienna is to search and discover. I'd spend nights as well as days
in Vienna if I knew some good hang-out spots and cheap digs.
OK now, as advertized ...
Bratislava
On castle hill, Beneath the castle, and above the old town ...
such narrow old streets as remain of the old Jewish quarter.
We'll get back to castle hill in a moment, but first, these bronze acrobats
down at one of the malls.
Back up on the hill beneath the castle, a raven-tressed metallic maiden.
Does she
represent somebody in particular, historical, literary, or mythic? If you know,
please tell me.
Does anybody want to make a slyly comic video? Train some actors to climb these
stairs very smoothly, so that it looks as if they are gliding on escalators. Or am
I too steeped in old pantomime comedy?
When in doubt, throw in the Beautiful Brown Danube. A magical semi-mythical name
adds pizzaz to a photo.
Immediatelly to the right, a bit of battlement.
This has been a shorter set of pictures than usual.
The next set will be back
to the usual length, and that will be it for Bratislava, for this season.
So far, the scans, exams, etc here in California are going smoothly. I expect to be
on the road again two weeks from now.
