Half way to the stars

The Wellington Cable Car climbs its way from the city center, via a couple of short tunnels.

At the top, we find a vista over the bay ...

Instructions for using a sundial!

... and an observatory, with planetarium and a self-service sundial - you yourself are the gnomon.

Down in town - it's Sign Spotting Time!

The multi-ethnic neighborhood Te Aro is a fine place to start.

From that hill top vista, you don't need to ride the Cable Car back down.

The aptly-named Downhill Walk gives you about an hour's stroll through the Wellington Botanical Garden to the heart of downtown.

Excelsior! so to speak.
