Šibenik, Croatia
I am settling in to Bratislava, and recovering from the marathon journey to
get here. Recovering enough to post a couple of pages devoted to it.
This page is for the last day in Croatia before the overnight ferry to
Italy. The next will deal with the afternoon in Italy, before the night
train to Vienna.
Starting the day in Šibenik, the calm lovely little city north of Split.
"... standin' in a shaft of light."
These are the normal spellings of sandwich and lasagna in
Coatia.
Well well, look what showed up in Šibenik on the day of my departure.
There I am walking innocently to the bus station, and there it is, a big
ol' cruise ship.
I wonder whether it is on its way to Rhodes.
Does anybody know the name of these gossamer pink tree blossoms?
A pair of hollyhocks were growing at the corner of a waterfront restaurant
in Split. I haven't noticed any others; I wonder if these might be
imported.
My camera's automatic color balance makes the bright spots on this
flame-orange flower look yellower than they really are.
On board the good ferry Regina Della Pace a good hour and a half
before departure, partly to keep the customs and security folks happy. The
life boats bear their mother ship's name.
Despite its Italian name, the ship is Croatian owned, and registered in
Panama.
Sailing time is at dusk. We have plenty of time to sit on deck and admire
the ship and the view of Split from the harbor as sunset approaches.
A friendly fellow American passenger offered to take my picture, after which
I had a nice chat with her and her hubby for about a half hour.
Dusk is falling; we will be off soon. Take a last look at Croatia.
Finally! Under way!
A night time crossing of the silky smooth Adriatic, with occasional strolls
around the deck in the warm headwind.
Come morning we will be in Italy
PS: Has anybody finished reading this page with an earworm of Estimated
Prophet?
If you have, do you mind having it?
