Rhodes, Greece

February?!! Already?!?
Ye ancient gods! Three weeks from today I am outta here!
And a week after that I am back in Norte Califas for the usual month of in-spection, see-lection, pre-scription, etc. Since about the turn of the century, scans and scopes have added a whole new meaning to seeking truth within for this old retiree.

Meanwhile here in Rhodes, it is cold as all get out. We are getting the southern fringes of that siberian air mass that is causing such havoc up in Ukraine and Poland. A by-product for us this far south is that the cold air is clear and friendly to light, if not heat.

Sign of a new month: the moon is back. Here it is this afternoon at - so help me - the Church of the Virgin of the Burgh. A mere ruin today, the church may well have crumbled under the weight of its own name.

A few days ago, our lunar buddy was near a battlement on the other side of town by the D'Amboise Gate.

Over at Kolonna Harbor, a meduim-sized ferry departs for the nearby island of Simi.
You can not see Simi from here. Those mountains across the water are Turkey.

The bronze porpoises are still impaled on their small saguaro.

The Gate of St Catherine, known informally as the little pedestrian gate.

The Holy Church of St. Pandeleimonos and don't you forget it, or we both will have! Hope it isn't on the mid-term.

Depth of field!
Sometimes even a point-and-shoot camera gets it right.

The front porch of my neighborhood supermarket is a frequent source of earnest, hard-working local color.

So paradoxically, the days here grow longer while my days here grow shorter.
Hasta next time!
