Rhodes, Greece
Back in California for the month. I've been scanned, scoped, echoed, and dopplered;
so far so good. Monday, my '99 Saab goes to the car doctor to get its service, and
find out why its "Check Engine" light is demanding attention. The stuff of life off the
road.
Warning to long-distance fliers in coach class: the new airline seat cushioning
is barely as thick as the flannel on a shirt. After about the eigth hour, the
twelve-hour flight from Paris was a pain in the rear in an agonizingly literal
sense. Forget about non-stop from West coast to Europe; in the future, I am
breaking the journey with a connection in Chicago or points east.
A week and more later, I am still sore and aching.
The Bay Area 'burbs don't count as travel photos. Let's clear out some of the backlog
from Rhodes.
These folks are crossing the medieval moat at the Red Gate, on their way into the
old city. They are having a much easier time of it than the tens of thousands of young
Turkish soldiers who lost their lives assaulting this gate in 1522.
Clothing bin at the market.
Little though the artsy lighting shows it, these really are olives.
Continuing from last post... two more scenes from atop the mesa that runs along the
center of the moat on the south side of the old city.
When in doubt fall back on a cliche. Put the two evening shots at the end of the
page, and let them be today's finale / outro.
Spring is here, at least for the rest of this week, and beautiful it is!
Hope Winter lets up soon for everybody that it is still harassing.
Actually, send
some of the rain here; California needs it something fierce!
Hasta next time!
