Olomouc, Moravia, Czech Republic
Stepping Stone
I flew from Bristol to Prague to get to Olomouc. The flight arrived
too late in the day for a convenient connection, so I availed myself
of a couple of nights in that extrordinarily beautiful and lively city.
Old Town Square
(I was going to include its name in Czech, but I cannot remember the
correct spelling, and what I do remember would require fumbling around
for letters that are not on my keyboard.)
One of several arguable hearts of Prague, huge, spectacular, alive and
vibrant on summer days and nights. This time there was a stage
with live bands, pre-emted by live broadcasts of Soccer World Cup
matches when those were happening.
Wenceslas Square
Another arguable heart of the city, about 1km long, packed with
walkers, buskers, gawkers, you name it. Between the old city and the
train station, so you are likely to have a good reason to pass through.
Old Town
For hire.
Must be a hoot of a way to do a city tour.
The Astronomy Clock
On the Old Town Square. A popular sight for gawkers and picture-takers, and who can blame them?
Want to rent a Segway Scooter? This woman is the one to do it from.
Few cities give you such non-stop
incentive to be looking up as Prague, with its seemingly endless
display of rooflines and spires.
I forget what these folks seemed so worked up over. Maybe just gawking
at the Astronomy Clock. Or perhaps these were some of the Germans
getting worked up over their team's World Cup match.
Courtyards, passages, and windows in and out of them. No space is unoccupied in the touristed parts of the city.
These folks are at the top of the Astronomy Clock Tower, which probably really has some other formal name.
The Moldau (Vltava) at dusk.
