Plauen, Saxony, Germany
Imagery dates: 28 May - 2 June 2014
It was that time of year again. Up to the remote Saxon countryside,
and Plauen, the only real city within 100 km in any direction. Almost
a self-contained world. Nice place for an annual gathering of friends!
Johannis Church
Afternoon
Last light
of evening.
The Plauen Needlepoint Museum.
Thems as claim to know tell me that
Plauen needlepoint is famous.
We are the people 7 Oct 1989.
The date would be around the time that the
eastern German state was collapsing.
Signs on Transport
Father and Son, are icons of Plauen.
Creations of the local cartoonist Erik Ohlers
(pen name
E. O. Plauen)
Their creator
died in Nazi captivity,
thus immortalizing Father, Son and self.
The Old Fire Watch
The former fire brigade quarters are
now a youth hostel. Somehow,
I
get to stay here too, despite
my youthful 68 years.
Out the window.
In the garden.
The Malzhaus
The medieval malting house, now a restaurant and event center.
In the cellar, Grateful Deadheads
gather and celebrate every
Spring,
which is what brings me here.
The old building has character to it.
Sunset.
