Novalja, Pag Island, Croatia
Last day in Novalja. I've found other net connections, without the music of a stamping
mill. Two adjacent cafes on the little central square. Basically outdoor affairs, which is
less than convenient on an overcast chillly day like today, but a welcome change of pace.
Yesterday afternoon turned downright t-shirty, a welcome change of pace in its own right.
The down side of letting loose with a good kvetch, as I did last post, is that reality
and proportion catch up with me afterward, and nag me a bit. In fairness to Novalja and its
holiday target market, I must confess.
In the distant past, when I was full-livered enough to drink the booze, and young enough to
chase the young women without looking like an idiot, I could and would have gotten into the
spirit of a weekend here, though I would still have griped no end about the excuse for
music they use. If I am going to listen to obnoxious adolescent music, I prefer the music
that was obnoxious when I was adolescent.
Fantasies of neon lights turning into liquid projections, and discopeople fleeing
as the room fills the ears with Quicksillver Messenger Service's The Fool.
Stop that! Schadenfreude is unworthy of a grown-up.
All of that said, Novalja is a really pretty little town. I have enough worthy
photos for another page after this one, if Zadar hasn't driven them from my mind
before I get them posted.
It could. I liked
Zadar when I was there
three years ago. O'course the sun was out then.
OK. A pretty former fishing village on a dry rocky island in the Adriatic is going
to have to speak for itself for the rest of this page.
I expect to see you next in Zadar, ancient capital of Croatia, modern main city
of Northern Dalmatia.
Let the words be yours,
I'm done with mine.
Cheers!
