Cairns & Gold Coast, Queensland, AU
A mixed bag tonight, with sloppy curation.
The individual pictures are fun - that's my
story, and I'm sticking to it!
High on the Upper Deck
last November in Rhodes, GR. I dunno why the picture just
showed up now, but here it is for your entertainment.
A few pix still from tropical Cairns, AU.
The heart of town at night.
A curiously-formed tree trunk.
The mud flat in black-and-white.
For the rest of the page, we are in a seaside sprawl called the Gold Coast,
about an hour south of Brisbane in southern Queensland.
Gold Coast somehow feels like
southern California in about 1960.
Just parked on the street! A '69 Mustang ragtop!
This part of the Gold Coast has the slightly improbable name
Surfers Paradise (no apostrophe!)
Beach appreciation is a major activity in Surfers Paradise.
A seemingly endless promenade makes it easy to stroll the shoreline without
the challenge of walking on sand.
One block of the center seems to be the Designated Sleaze District.
Sub-tropical flora and fauna are back. No more curlews and lapwings here. I don't
remember any pelicans. The ibis and magpies, familiar from Sydney, are here.
Sorry, no actual bird pictures, - just this odd-looking fruit.
Inland, where all of those beach visitors spend their nights in rather pricey accomodations.
About 90 percent of the trees seem to be related to either tamarinds or yuccas. Must be
something about the sub-tropics. (Latitude 28 deg S - definitely outside the tropics
[+-23.5 deg] )
