Alum Chine
Chines are these wooded
gullies that penetrate inland from the sea. This one sits at the end of
my street, Beaulieu (BEWlee) Road, where there is a foot bridge across,
and a stair down into it.
That dark stripe down there is the shadow of our bridge.
There is our bridge from below.
I've been using this chine as my preferred route into town for
shopping, or down to the beach. I could be getting to the same places
on streets that are picturesque enough, but this is gorgeous.
Let's walk up to the head of the chine, then back down to the beach end.
It is worth taking slowly, and savoring.
There is the city street at the top end.
I actually went up and shopped in town and used the net connection at
the pizza-and-kebap shop. This post will turn around right here
and go back down beachward.
Stairs coming down from some cross-street. Only Beaulieu Road has an
actual bridge, and that is a foot-only bridge. Other cross streets end
in these stairs.
As we near the mouth of the chine, it broadens, and the trees look a little more wind blown. Lawns appear in the clearings.
There is the mouth itself, opening to the beach and sea up ahead.
That is another story for another night.
