Approach
Ever see the early 1960's movie The Mouse That Roared?
Peter Sellers and crew crossed the Atlantic in a
tugboat that strongly resembled the ferry from Rhodes to Marmaris,
Turkey.
After a couple of hours we penetrated deeper and deeper into a rocky,
mountainous coast, toward a narrow inlet reminiscent of a bridgeless
Golden Gate, with a town just discernable through the strait and across
the bay.
The photo shows the old fishing village, without revealing
that it is smothered under bars and concrete. Hey, it is a pretty sight
in a gorgeous setting. Out of the frame to the left is about 10 km of
package tour apartments and hotels. I found cheap lodging in
one of them, so I shouldn't be too harsh.
A local tells me that this is the first time they have seen this
particular cruise ship here in Marmaris. To my inexperienced eye it
looks enormous, Certainly the biggest I have seen yet. Perhaps it is
brand new, It has a glassed-in area amidship on the top deck(s?). I
think the registration was German.
The waterfront by the ferry dock is lined with cafes, you pay for that
view, but it is worth it to sit for an hour in the afternoon watching
the parade of people against the lovely bay. The next street inland is
called Bar
Street, for reasons that become all too clear when you get
to it.
On The Waterfront
Wish my camera had stronger zoom. Here we look back toward the entrance
to the bay, past a photogenic sculpture that I eventually identified as
a mermaid.
A tourist art
store. Your
guess is as good as mine how tittis come into it.

We Leave the Castle
Looking
toward my digs along the channelized river.
