Looking Up
An Upscale Canal Neighborhood
Amsterdam has more canals than Venice, but then you knew that all
along, didn't you.
Rembrandt Square: a major tourist
and entertainment center.
Also a useful transfer point on the admirable tram system.
The home neighborhood
Bicycles have their own lanes on all streets here. This one has just
passed "my"
apartment. Behind us is a park we'll see in a moment.
The exit from the hospital
I visited yesterday for a foot diagnosis. (Irritation from walking,
probably related to my shoes.)
Across the street - Oosterpark
And a lovely park it is, covering an area of about six of the
residential blocks in the neighborhood.
You are never far from a fine park in Amsterdam.
Evening At Home
It doesn't get dark here until after 11:00pm. Throws off my sense of time something fierce.
The sitting room of my hosts' apartment. The bluish glow in the lower
right corner is from the screen of my trusty Eee PC 1000H. To the right
is my buddy the house parakeet. He loves to be sprayed with water from
a little spray-bottle. Comes over and hangs on the bars of his cage to
expose himself, so to speak.
